Mike is a fifth generation native of the Auburn area, and attended Placer High School. He is an accomplished and distinguished Naval Officer, whose career has taken him to many places in the world including Asia.
Due to his language and diplomatic skills, Mike was selected to be the Naval Attaché to China where he served in 1989 and 1990. He received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal at the end of that posting.
His last two Navy tours were as commander of the only US Naval Base in South Korea where he was responsible for support to the Seventh Fleet and the health and well-being of over 400 US personnel, dependents and Korean Nationals. This was followed by a tour as Defense and Naval Attaché in Hong Kong. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his work in Hong Kong. After his retirement from the Navy in 1994, Mike returned to the education field by successfully establishing a Navy JROTC program at a high school in the Los Angeles area.
It was a pleasure to host Mike Holmes on the tv show Connections last week. Keep your eyes open for the show to air on CH. 20 on Wave’s Cable Network. You can check the schedule for air times at www.actv20.org select the “programming” tab along the top.
Moderator Bonnie Gibson chatted up Holmes and shared Holmes’ history with viewers. Bonnie has been in Auburn for a year and is making the scene regularly and I am glad to assist her as she puts down her roots and makes the community connections on ACTV which continues to provide opportunities for the media-minded.
Spring is finaly here and ACTV CONNECTIONS blossoms with color during April, including artist Ann Ragland; artist/instructor Juan Pena; floral designer Lisa Baehr; Tea Maven Betty Thompson so tune in and enjoy.
